Biography

Born in Berkeley, California, I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, arriving on Vashon Island, in the State of Washington, almost twenty-five years ago. As a criminal defense trial attorney for twenty years in Seattle, representing individuals accused of serious felony crimes, mostly murder, it took devastating illness to convince me to retire early. Needing a new focus for my creativity, l looked back to the high school photography classes I took in the 70’s, and discovered a new starting point.

The photography dark room work I did back then was with black and white film and print development. This experience gave me a fairly solid foundation from which to enter the digital photography arena. Now that most cameras are digital, the darkroom techniques I learned for film are provided for instead in the software. I also discovered that digital photography does provide a wealth of options and opportunities to present what is seen in my “mind’s eye.”

As a photographer, I simply seek to capture the pleasing shapes and images so easily discovered on this island and surrounding communities -especially now that I have the time to look a bit longer.

Still living in my cabin on the west side of Vashon Island, I sail a small boat when able in Puget Sound.
